Welcome to the New Jersey Standards Review Survey!

The New Jersey Standards Review Survey has two primary goals:

  1. Increase awareness and understanding of the standards
  2. Solicit actionable feedback on the standards as part of New Jersey's regular review process of academic standards that have been implemented

The New Jersey Department of Education is seeking specific input on the English language arts (ELA) and Mathematics standards adopted in 2010. While stakeholders had an opportunity to provide feedback during the development and adoption process, the New Jersey Standards Review Survey will give P-12 teachers, administrators, higher education faculty, parents, students, members of the business community, and others the opportunity to improve the standards based on their experience over the past 4-5 years.

The New Jersey Standards Review Survey will remain open until October 9, 2015 to give those who are interested ample opportunity to provide thoughtful responses.

Once the New Jersey Standards Review Survey ends, comments provided about specific standards will be evaluated by the New Jersey Standards Review Committee and three subcommittees comprising teams of educators from all levels specializing in the specific content areas. Also included in the Committee and subcommittees are higher education faculty, the business community, parents, and other content area experts. The New Jersey Standards Review Committee will ultimately make recommendations on any changes to the State Board of Education for its consideration in January 2016.

Instructions

The standards in this application are arranged by subject and grade level. To review a standard, click the plus sign beside the standard to see more detailed information. You may provide feedback on standards that have the Icon: Provide feedback for this standard icon. To find particular standards to review, you may also search for a particular concept in the search bar.

In your evaluation of each standard, you will have the following options:

  1. I agree with the Standard as written.
  2. The Standard should be discarded. Comments required
  3. The Standard should be in a different grade level. Grade selection is required
  4. The Standard should be broken up into several, more specific Standards. Suggested rewrite is required
  5. The Standard should be rewritten. Suggested rewrite is required

Once you submit your feedback, the Icon: Provide feedback for this standard icon will turn green Icon: Feedback provided - I agree with the standard if you agreed with the standard, or red Icon: Feedback provided - I disagree with the standard if you selected to discard, change grades, break up the standard, or rewrite the standard.

If you believe a new standard needs to be created, select “Rewrite” as the feedback option and type "NEW STANDARD:" followed by your suggestion in the text box for the current standard that is most closely related. Please be sure to provide your reasons for the new standard in the comments box, as this information will be considered by the appropriate Standards Review Subcommittee.

You may leave and come back to the New Jersey Standards Review Survey at any time, but you will only be able to submit suggestions on a particular standard once per electronic device. Also, once you have submitted feedback on a specific standard and moved on, your feedback will be recorded and cannot subsequently be modified.

From September 2 through October 9, 2015, the New Jersey Department of Education (DOE) sought public input on the state’s English Language Arts and Mathematics standards through the New Jersey Standards Review Survey. Academic standards define what New Jersey students are expected to learn at each grade level to graduate ready for success in college and career. How the standards are taught – the curriculum or methods and materials used, is decided at the local level.

The New Jersey Standards Review Survey had two primary goals:

  1. To increase awareness and understanding of the New Jersey State Standards for English language arts and Mathematics.
  2. To receive actionable feedback on the standards as part of New Jersey’s Standards Review Process.

The Standards Review Committee and Subcommittees are now working to review all of the feedback collected as part of the Standards Review Process. The Subcommittees will recommend revisions that have merit for improving the overall quality and appropriateness of the standards to promote college and career readiness for all students. The Standards Review Committee, comprised of parents, content experts, and teachers from K-12 and post-secondary institutions, will evaluate the recommended revisions, and present a set of proposed changes to New Jersey’s State Board of Education for consideration in January 2016.
